Deltarune Chapter 4 is nearing completion, but the release of Chapters 3 and 4 is still some time away, according to creator Toby Fox's latest newsletter.
Fox, also known for Undertale, revealed that while Chapter 4 is mostly playable, requiring only polishing, the multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges, especially since it's their first major paid release since Undertale. He aims for perfection.
Currently, Chapter 4's maps and battles are complete, but some cutscenes need minor improvements, one battle requires balancing and visual enhancements, another needs a better background, and two battles need improved ending sequences. Despite this, three friends have given positive feedback after playing through the entire chapter.
Before the release, the team must complete several tasks: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and thorough bug testing. Chapter 3 development is finished (as per Fox's February newsletter), and preliminary work on Chapter 5 has already begun.
The newsletter offered a glimpse into the game, including dialogue between Ralsei and Rouxls, a character description for Elnina, and a new item, GingerGuard. While the three-year wait since Chapter 2 has been frustrating for fans, the anticipation is high, especially given Fox's confirmation that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than Chapters 1 and 2. He anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters once Chapters 3 and 4 launch.
