In a recent interview with Game File, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe delved into the challenges of bringing Palworld to the Nintendo Switch, while also hinting at future developments. Although a Switch version isn't completely off the table, Mizobe highlighted technical difficulties that could hinder the port. Discussions about launching Palworld on "new platforms" are ongoing, but as Mizobe explained, Pocketpair has no concrete announcements to share at this point.
Despite the game's high PC specifications posing a challenge for a Switch port, Mizobe remains hopeful about expanding Palworld's reach. Earlier this month, he noted, "Palworld’s specs on PC are higher than the Switch’s specs. So maybe it’s hard to port to Switch just for technical reasons."
Regarding potential releases on other platforms, Mizobe has not confirmed whether Palworld will be available on PlayStation, Nintendo, or mobile devices. In a Bloomberg interview earlier this year, Mizobe confirmed ongoing discussions to bring the game to more platforms. He also mentioned that Pocketpair is open to partnership or acquisition offers, though no buyout talks with Microsoft have taken place.
Wants Palworld to Have More 'Ark' or 'Rust' Elements
Beyond platform considerations, Mizobe shared his vision for enhancing Palworld's multiplayer features. The upcoming arena mode, which he described as "kind of an experiment," sets the stage for more multiplayer experiences. Mizobe's ultimate goal is to introduce a true PvP mode to Palworld, drawing inspiration from games like Ark and Rust.
Ark and Rust are renowned for their survival gameplay, featuring challenging environments, intricate resource management, and extensive player interactions, including alliances and tribes. Both games blend PvE and PvP elements. In Ark, players face threats from prehistoric creatures and environmental hazards like extreme weather. Rust similarly challenges players with wildlife and radiation zones.
Palworld, developed by Pocketpair, has captivated gamers with its unique blend of creature collection and survival shooting. Players can capture creatures known as Pals, which can be used to build bases and perform various tasks, all while fighting for survival.
The game enjoyed a stellar launch, selling 15 million copies on PC within its first month and attracting 10 million players on Xbox through the Game Pass subscription service. Palworld is gearing up for a significant update with the free Sakurajima release on Thursday, which will introduce a new island, the much-anticipated PvP arena, and more.
