Marvel Rivals Addresses 30 FPS Issue

Summary

  • Lower FPS settings in Marvel Rivals are causing damage issues for some heroes like Dr. Strange and Wolverine.
  • Developers are actively working to fix the 30 FPS bug affecting damage calculation in the game.
  • The Season 1 launch is expected on January 11 and may address the FPS issue, improving the gameplay experience.

The Marvel Rivals development team has acknowledged an issue where players using lower FPS settings experience reduced damage output compared to those on higher-end devices. They are diligently working to resolve this problem, with a fix potentially arriving within days.

Launched in early December 2025, Marvel Rivals quickly became a sensation in the hero shooter genre. Despite early concerns about hero balance, the game has earned an impressive 80 percent approval rate from over 132,000 reviews on Steam, indicating strong community support.

Recently, many players have reported a glitch at 30 FPS that affects the damage output of certain heroes such as Dr. Strange, Magik, Star-Lord, Venom, and Wolverine. This glitch causes these heroes to deal less damage at lower frame rates. A post on the official Marvel Rivals Discord server from Community Manager James confirmed these issues, noting that some heroes experience movement and damage problems at lower frame rates. While a complete fix might take some time, James assured players that the upcoming Season 1, set to launch on January 11, will address this issue to some extent.

The root of the problem appears to be related to the client-side prediction mechanism used in Marvel Rivals. This feature is intended to reduce the appearance of lag by moving characters onscreen before the server processes the player's input.

The community manager's post did not provide an exhaustive list of affected heroes or moves, but it specifically mentioned Wolverine's Feral Leap and Savage Claw abilities. These effects are more pronounced when tested against stationary targets, though they may be less noticeable during actual gameplay. If the Season 1 launch does not fully resolve the FPS damage issue, a future update is expected to address it completely.
