Capcom is enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before its release, aiming to reduce PC GPU requirements. This follows feedback from the initial open beta test.
Lowering the Bar for PC Gamers
A January 19, 2025, announcement on Monster Hunter Germany's Twitter (X) account revealed Capcom's efforts. A video showcased improved PS5 performance in Prioritize Framerate mode, achieving higher fps at the cost of some visual detail. Similar improvements are planned for the PC version, focusing on lowering the GPU demands. The tweet stated their intention to reduce the recommended GPU specifications.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in lowering these requirements would make the game accessible to a broader range of PC players. A free benchmarking tool is also in development to help players assess their system's compatibility.
Addressing Beta Concerns
The October/November 2024 open beta test revealed significant performance issues. Many Steam users reported low-poly models and significant frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often involved sacrificing visual quality.
Capcom acknowledged these problems on November 1, 2024, promising fixes for issues like afterimage noise in the final release. The game's improved state is expected to be evident in Open Beta Test 2 (February 7-10 and 14-17, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam), featuring Gypceros and a new monster. However, the inclusion of the performance improvements in this beta remains unconfirmed.
