Josef Fares, the creative mind behind Hazelight Studios, recently shed light on the much-anticipated game, Split Fiction, during an insightful interview with MinnMax. Fares reaffirmed the studio's steadfast commitment to steering clear of live-service models and microtransactions, emphasizing their dedication to providing pure, uninterrupted gaming experiences. He also made it clear that Hazelight has no plans to go public or be acquired by a larger corporation, stating, "We're not going public. No microtransactions. We focus solely on delivering great gaming experiences."
In terms of gameplay, Fares revealed that the core narrative of Split Fiction is expected to last between 12 to 14 hours, mirroring the duration of their critically acclaimed game, It Takes Two. For those eager to dive deeper, optional missions and additional content can extend the playtime to around 16 to 17 hours.
While Hazelight is renowned for its cooperative gameplay titles, Fares hinted at the potential for exploring single-player games in the future. He also disclosed that the budget for Split Fiction is twice that of It Takes Two. Despite this significant investment, the studio has chosen not to pursue post-launch DLC, ensuring that all features are available to players from the day of release. Fans can mark their calendars for the global launch of Split Fiction on March 6th, available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
