Elden Ring: Nightreign will remove the in-game messaging feature, a departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in an interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. Nightreign's approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions don't allow sufficient time for players to leave or read messages.
"Given sessions are roughly forty minutes long, there's insufficient time to send or read messages, so we disabled the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This change is noteworthy, as player messaging has been a significant aspect of FromSoftware's games, enhancing player interaction and enjoyment. However, the developers felt the feature wasn't suitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate storyline. It offers a new adventure, presenting unique challenges and encounters while retaining the atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
