Hopetown, a groundbreaking nonlinear RPG developed by Longdue Games, introduces an innovative approach to narrative-driven gameplay. This studio, founded by former employees of renowned companies like ZA/UM, Rockstar Games, and Bungie, has unveiled its first glimpse into the game's mechanics, positioning Hopetown as a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium. The game's storyline revolves around a journalist who wakes up in a mining town after a night of heavy drinking. Players, battling a pounding hangover, must unravel the events of the previous night while navigating an escalating local conflict. The choices made by players can either soothe the rising tensions or exacerbate them, adding depth to the narrative experience.

Screenshots from the game showcase a dialogue-heavy experience where players' decisions have a significant impact on the unfolding story. Players can select from various archetypes, each providing unique dialogue options and approaches during interactions. For instance, when engaging with an old woman feeding pigeons, the tone players choose can alter the course and outcome of the conversation, reflecting the game's emphasis on player agency.
Longdue Games is gearing up to launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund Hopetown, with the project's page already live on the platform. Although no official release date has been announced, excitement is mounting among fans of narrative-focused RPGs.
Hopetown isn't the only game drawing inspiration from Disco Elysium. Two other studios, Dark Math Games and Summer Eternal, have also announced their projects in the psychological RPG genre, adding to the growing anticipation in the gaming community.
