Nintendo and GameStop have responded to reports of Switch 2 consoles being damaged by retailer staples during launch day sales. Customers discovered broken screens after receipts were stapled directly to the packaging.
Affected buyers have confirmed to IGN that GameStop is now providing replacement Switch 2 units from inventory at neighboring stores.
When contacted by IGN, Nintendo referenced GameStop's official statement confirming the issue was limited to a single location where dozens of consoles were mishandled by store employees.
"We've resolved an isolated incident where staples compromised Switch 2 screens at one location," GameStop announced via social media."Replacements are being provided. We've removed staplers from service," the statement continued, humorously referencing a stapler confiscation scene from the 1999 comedy Office Space.

Customers who attended the midnight launch at GameStop's Forest Avenue location in Staten Island discovered staple punctures in their Switch 2 screens upon unboxing.
Some criticized GameStop's receipt attachment method, while others noted the Switch 2's packaging design leaves the screen vulnerable—positioned facing outward beneath just a thin cardboard layer.
"I predicted this issue," one customer commented online. "Nintendo's packaging design exposes the screen with minimal protection. We'll likely see more reports of shipping damage with the screen positioned so prominently."
IGN has asked both companies whether other stores received warnings and if Nintendo plans packaging revisions to better protect Switch 2 screens during retail handling.
