While Capcom's latest release is making waves by ranking 6th among Steam's most-played titles, the game is receiving criticism from users due to its poor technical performance. Digital Foundry's in-depth analysis of the PC version has corroborated these concerns, revealing a host of issues that mar the gaming experience.
According to Digital Foundry, one of the major problems is the lengthy shader pre-compilation process, which can take up to 9 minutes on a system equipped with a 9800X3D processor and over 30 minutes on a Ryzen 3600. Even when set to "High" graphics settings, the texture quality remains substandard. On a PC with an RTX 4060, configured at "High" settings and 1440p resolution with balanced DLSS, users experience significant frame time spikes. The situation doesn't improve much even with a more robust RTX 4070 featuring 12 GB of memory, as textures still appear markedly poor.
For those with GPUs equipped with 8 GB of memory, Digital Foundry recommends reducing texture quality to "Medium" to help alleviate stuttering and frame time spikes. However, this compromise does not fully resolve the visual quality issues. Quick camera movements trigger noticeable spikes, though these are less severe with slower camera adjustments. Even with textures set to low quality, frame time problems continue to plague the gameplay.
Alex Battaglia from Digital Foundry points out that the underlying issue stems from data streaming, which puts undue stress on the GPU during decompression. This is particularly detrimental for budget graphics cards, leading to pronounced frame time spikes. As a result, Battaglia advises against purchasing the game for those with 8 GB GPUs and expresses reservations about its suitability even for more powerful setups like the RTX 4070.
The game's performance is particularly dismal on Intel GPUs. For instance, the Arc 770 struggles to deliver a mere 15–20 frames per second, compounded by missing textures and other visual anomalies. While high-performance systems can somewhat mitigate these issues, the game still fails to provide a consistently smooth experience. At present, finding an optimal settings configuration is nearly impossible without sacrificing significant visual quality.
