Global Expansion: Capcom's Strategy for Monster Hunter Wilds -----------------------------------------------------------------------------A Seamless Hunting Ground
Monster Hunter Wilds immerses players in a dynamic, interconnected world, a stark departure from the series' traditional structure. This expansive ecosystem evolves in real time, reacting to player actions.
In a Summer Game Fest interview, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, executive director Kaname Fujioka, and director Yuya Tokuda highlighted the seamless gameplay and responsive environment. Hunters explore a vast, unexplored region, encountering new creatures and resources. Unlike previous entries, Wilds abandons segmented zones for a truly open world, allowing for free exploration and hunting.
Fujioka emphasized the importance of seamlessness: "Creating detailed, immersive ecosystems demanded a seamless world filled with freely huntable monsters."
A Dynamic and Responsive World
The Summer Game Fest demo showcased diverse biomes, desert settlements, numerous monsters, and interactive hunter NPCs. The absence of timers allows for a more flexible hunting style. Fujioka noted the focus on interactions: "We focused on interactions like monster packs hunting prey and how they conflict with human hunters. Their 24-hour behavior patterns make the world feel more dynamic and organic."
Real-time weather and fluctuating monster populations further enhance the dynamic nature of Wilds. Tokuda explained the technological advancements: "Building a massive, changing ecosystem with more monsters and interactive characters was a challenge. Simultaneous environmental changes were previously impossible."
The success of Monster Hunter World informed Wilds' development. Tsujimoto emphasized the global approach: "Our global mindset for Monster Hunter World, focusing on simultaneous worldwide release and localization, helped us reach players who hadn't played in a while."
